Exactly 100

Roll, take it as ones or as tens, and land on 100 exactly. Single game.

Exactly 100 is a two-player dice race to land on exactly 100. Each roll can be added as ones or as tens, such as 4 or 40, and going over 100 crosses out that circle, so you choose between safe and bold.

Roll a 4 and choose: add 4 or add 40. Go over 100 and that circle is crossed out, so every roll is a choice between playing it safe and jumping ahead. Fill the printed 100 circle exactly and the table cheers.

How to play Exactly 100: quick rules

About 50 to 75 seconds a game; 2 to 4 minutes for best of 3. Full rules, options and bot levels are further down.

  1. 1Tap your die.
  2. 2Take it as ones or as tens: 4 or 40.
  3. 3Never go over 100. If both would, you lose that circle.
  4. 4Land on exactly 100 to win. If the starter gets there, the other player gets one last roll.
  5. 5Rows full? The total closer to 100 wins.

Exactly 100 rules

Setup

  • Each player has a row of 6 marker circles on a notebook page at their own end (8 with the Long option), plus a printed 100 circle.
  • Both totals start at 0. Your total is the last number written in your row.
  • A coin toss picks who starts the first game of a fresh match. After each game the loser starts the next; on a rematch the previous match's loser starts.
  • A 3-2-1 countdown starts each game.

A turn

  • Tap your die to roll a number from 1 to 6.
  • Two tokens appear in your dock: the roll as ones (for example +4) and as tens (+40), each showing the new total.
  • Tap a token to write the new total in your next empty circle. The turn then passes.
  • A token that would take you over 100 is crossed out and can't be played. If only one token is legal, you must take it; there is no pass.
  • Bust: if both would take you over 100, your next circle is scribbled out, your total stays the same and the turn ends.
  • With the Slide back bust rule, a bust instead writes your total minus the roll (never below 0) in that circle.

Winning

  • Write exactly 100 and you win the game.
  • Fair finish: if the starter reaches 100 first, the other player gets one last roll. If that roll also lands on exactly 100, the game is replayed; anything else, including a bust, gives the game to the first player to 100.
  • If both rows fill up and nobody reached 100, the total closer to 100 wins. Totals can never go over 100, so the higher total wins.

Ties and match

  • Equal totals with both rows full, or both players on exactly 100 after the last roll, replay the game with the other player starting. Nothing is scored.
  • A match is a single game by default, or best of 3. It never ends drawn.
  • With Golden 100 on (best of 3 only), a game won on exactly 100 counts as two games, so it wins the match outright.

Hints against the bot

  • Playing the bot outside a tournament, you can spend 20 coins on a hint when both tokens are legal. It rings the better token for two seconds without playing it.
  • You can take one hint per turn. There are no hints against a friend or in a tournament.

Tips to win at Exactly 100

  1. 1Take tens early: on 6 circles you can't reach 100 with ones alone.
  2. 2Try to leave a gap to 100 that one roll can close: a multiple of 10 up to 60, or 6 or less.
  3. 3Avoid odd gaps like 33 near the end of your row; they need two exact rolls to finish.
  4. 4On your last circles, check your rival's total: if both rows fill up, the total closer to 100 wins, so the token that beats them can matter more than chasing 100.

Controls

Phone flat between you. Each player owns a half, and the far half faces the far player.

  • Everything you touch is in your own dock at your end of the phone: first your die, then your two tokens.
  • Only the mover's dock is lit; the other dock ignores touches, so nobody can tap out of turn.
  • A shared ruler in the middle shows both totals racing toward a star that stands for 100, readable from both seats.
  • The phone lies flat between you, with Blue's row and dock turned to face Blue.

Every option is free. Defaults are marked.

Play Exactly 100 against the bot

The bot plays Blue and rolls its own die from the same dice as you. Its only decision is ones or tens, and it never sees the next roll. Its die rolls in its dock and its tokens appear before it picks, so you can follow along.

Easy

Often grabs the tens without thinking and busts a lot.

Normal

Usually picks the smarter token, but about one pick in seven goes the other way.

Hard

Picks the better token every time and finishes cleanly, including choosing the one token that beats your total on its last circle. The dice can still beat it.

Coming soon

  • Online play. Play Exactly 100 against someone on another phone, with a turn clock and the server rolling the dice.

How it feels

  • A rattle and a clack as the die tumbles and lands big on the page.
  • A marker squeak as your number writes into the circle and your bar slides along the ruler.
  • A scribble scratch and a "Bust!" sticker when both choices go over.
  • A fanfare for exactly 100: a marker blob fills the 100 circle with a burst of sun.

Accessibility

  • Colour is never the only cue: tokens show the number added and the new total as text, and a crossed-out token gets a stroke and a pale face, not just grey.
  • Each player's ruler marker runs on its own lane from its own side.
  • With reduce motion on, the die doesn't tumble, scribbles appear at once and there is no burst.
  • The screen reader reads the roll and both choices, for example "Red rolled 4: plus 4 makes 74, plus 40 is over".
  • Large buttons, one tap each, and no clock on a turn against a friend or the bot.
