Number Hunt
Find the numbers in order. One miss hides them all. Most points in a hunt.
Number Hunt is a two-player memory game in which you flip face-down caps to find the numbers 1 to 8 in order. A right cap scores and lets you flip again, a wrong one flips every cap back, and the most points wins.
Bottle caps sit face down round a chalk star. Flip them to find 1, then 2, then 3, scoring as you go. Miss once and every cap flips back, and now the other player knows where your numbers were too.

How to play Number Hunt: quick rules
About 45 to 90 seconds a hunt. Full rules, options and bot levels are further down.
- 1Flip a cap to find the next number, shown in the middle.
- 2Right cap: score a point and flip again.
- 3Wrong cap: every cap flips back and the turn passes.
- 4The last number is worth 3 more. Most points wins.
Number Hunt rules
Setup
- 8 caps sit face down at the tips of a star (6 or 10 with the Caps option). Under them are the numbers 1 to 8, shuffled fresh for every hunt.
- The medallion in the middle shows the next number to find. It starts at 1 and is shared by both players.
- The first hunt of a new match starts with a coin toss; the loser of a hunt starts the next, and a rematch starts with the player who lost.
A turn
- Flip one face-down cap.
- If it shows the next number, it stays face up, you score 1 point and you flip again.
- If it shows any other number, it stays visible for a moment, then every face-up cap flips back one after another round the star. The hunt restarts at 1 and the turn passes.
- Points you already scored stay. Numbers found again after a miss score again.
- Both players see every flip. Nobody ever sees a face-down number.
Winning
- Finding the last number scores 3 more points on top and ends the hunt. The player with more points wins it.
- A tie goes to sudden death: a fresh shuffle, and the player who didn't flip the last cap starts. Turns swap on every miss, and the first player to find the 1 wins the hunt.
- In best of 3, the first to win 2 hunts takes the match.
- There are no hints in Number Hunt: remembering the caps is the whole game.
Extras
- Streak flame
- On by default. A flame with your run count lights from the 3rd right cap in a turn. It is just for show.
- Golden cap
- Off by default. One number from the middle of the run is golden: it looks like any other cap until flipped, then scores 2 instead of 1.
- Drift
- Off by default. After every miss, two caps slowly swap places while both players watch.
Tips to win at Number Hunt
- 1Watch every flip your rival makes. Their misses tell you where numbers are, and the next turn may be yours.
- 2Learn the caps by their place round the star, such as “3 is at the top, 5 is two to the right”.
- 3When you don't know where the next number is, flip a cap nobody has seen yet rather than one you know is wrong.
- 4A long run is worth more than it looks: numbers found again after a miss score again, and the last one adds 3.
- 5With Drift on, follow the two caps that swap after every miss, or your memory of them will be out of date.
Controls
Phone flat between you. Each player owns a half, and the far half faces the far player.
- Tap any face-down cap to flip it. That is the only action.
- In friend play every face-up number and the medallion turn to face the player whose turn it is.
- Taps during a miss, the flip-back or the countdown are ignored.

Play Number Hunt against the bot
The bot plays Blue and learns only from flips both of you can see. It never peeks at a face-down cap. It tries to remember every number that is turned over, and on its turn flips the cap it remembers holding the next number, or a cap it hasn't seen yet.
Easy
Forgets most of what it sees and often flips at random.
Normal
Remembers more than half of what it sees and only now and then slips.
Hard
Remembers nearly everything it sees and never flips at random, so it punishes every miss you make.

- Tournament
- Can be drawn in a tournamentIn a tournament it is a single hunt with 8 caps and Streak flame on.
- Hints

Coming soon
- Online play. Play Number Hunt against a friend on another phone, with a clock on each flip. The shuffle would stay on the server so no phone knows a face-down number.
How it feels
- A bottle-cap clink on every flip, and a chime that rises with each number in your run.
- A "+1" stamped beside every right cap, and the medallion flips like a coin to the next number.
- On a miss, a ripple of soft clicks as the caps go down one after another round the star.
- A fanfare when the last cap is found and the medallion turns into a star.
Accessibility
- 6 and 9 are underlined so they can't be confused.
- Every cap, the next number and the found tray have screen reader labels.
- Caps are big targets, there is no clock, and one-handed play works.
- With reduced motion on, caps fade between states with no flips or slides.
